Mountains around the world have become synonymous with cable cars, and as tourism flourishes, scenic locations are increasingly adopting cable cars to elevate visitor experiences.
Mount Tirlex, located south of Lucerne, Switzerland, is distinguished by its three unique cable cars, each providing different perspectives of the stunning snow-capped mountain.
At 3,238 meters above sea level, Mount Tirlex is central Switzerland’s highest peak, renowned for its glacier, which can be conquered in less than an hour. After traveling from Ingleborg train station to the Tieris Valley cable car station, we chose to take a tour bus directly to the Mount Tieris cable car station, beginning our journey of visual marvels.
The 2015 upgrade of the cable car line streamlined the route, featuring the ‘Tiernsee Express’ 8-seater cable car, which transports passengers from Ingleborg (1,000 meters above sea level) to Lake Trübeck station (1,800 meters above sea level) and then ascends to Stender station (2,450 meters above sea level). Here, travelers can transfer to the world’s first rotating cable car, providing a panoramic ascent to Tiernsee station in just 30 minutes. With restaurants at each station, culinary delights accompany the breathtaking views, catering to a variety of tastes.
The highlight of our adventure was the world’s first revolving cable car to Mount Terez’s summit. Launched in 2014, this second-generation marvel rotates 360 degrees during the 5-minute ascent, offering floor-to-ceiling views of steep cliffs, glacial crevasses, and distant snow-capped peaks.
